  • What is RPESJC?

RPESJC is the Retired Public Employees of San Joaquin County, an all-volunteer non-profit organization originally incorporated in 1999.  The organization has no paid employees or owns any property.

RPESJC was organized in response to the desires of former employees of San Joaquin County and those on the threshold of retirement to preserve and promote the general welfare of retired employees of San Joaquin County.

What are the Benefits of Belonging to RPESJC?

      Statewide Advocacy

There is strength in numbers, and RPESJC is an active member of the California Retired County Employees Association (CRCEA).  This statewide organization represents over 200,000 retired "1937 Act County retirees.  RPESJC can sponsor its own legislative proposals or join with CRCEA in sponsoring important legislation.  CRCEA hosts biannual conferences and RPESJC delegates attend each conference.  There they not only obtain updates on pending State and Federal legislation that could impact 1937 Act retirees but interact with peers regarding retiree health and other benefits.  Delegates bring that information back to you.

    •  Local Representation

RPESJC also provides representation for members before the San Joaquin County Employees Retirement Association (SJCERA) and the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors.

    •  Information/Education

At most monthly luncheons, knowledgeable guest speakers address issues such as healthcare issues and updates, legislation affecting retirees, investments, elder care issues, safety and identity protection, recreational, and other topics.  RPESJC publishes a quarterly newsletter, "The Cattails", which is mailed to all members and to various retiree organizations in other California counties.  Its purpose is to keep the membership informed of current events relating to their retirement benefits, information on new retirees, deceased retirees, and advertise forthcoming events and activities.

    •  Social Interaction

In addition to the monthly luncheons, RPESJC hosts a catered picnic in June of each year, as well as a holiday luncheon in December. These events enable a member to renew old acquaintances and make new friends.

Monthly membership luncheons are held on the second Thursday of each month at a location announced in the RPESJC quarterly newsletter.  RPESJC pays for the first luncheon attended by new members.

    Governing Board

RPESJC is governed by a 14 member Board of Directors.  The Board Officer positions, President, Vice president, Treasurer, and Secretary are elected for a two year term by the membership.  Eight of the Board members are appointed Directors at Large.  The RPESJC By-laws include both the past President and current Retirement Association Board Representative (a retiree) to be included on the Board.

In addition to the Board of Directors, volunteers assist with the quarterly newsletter, serve on a variety of committees, and provide various support roles.
